Supervision during construction, particularly at each phase completion is very important. A good pool company will insure that each construction phase is properly finished. Unfortunately this is not a practice of many companies, large volume companies in particular fail to supervise the work of sub-contracted phases after completion. It is usually best to find a reputable small builder. The supervision of pool construction is more personal and making contact will be easier, should you have questions or concerns

Check references and consider builder reputation. Dealing with a smaller builder will make it easier to maintain communication, and insure that your needs are not lost in the crowd. Be very clear with the salesman about how the installments are to be paid. The installments should insure that your pool project is completed timely and to your satisfaction

Realize that once you purchase a pool, much of the work could be done by sub-contractors. This could slow project development. Ask about the companies you will be working with. Consider this - installing an inground pool requires excavating. The machine will need access, and your yard will get messy. Fences, trees, plants and utility lines may need to be moved. Be flexible, weather and sub schedules will likely cause delays. Agree before hand, what is not to be touched, who will pay what, and who will clean up after it's all over

When choosing the type of pool, consider care, durability and warranty. Fiberglass pools offer ease of maintenance and a lifetime warranty

When you have a pool - think safety. Always supervise children. Have a means of securing access, if necessary, have a safety fence installed. Several drownings have occurred when hair or clothing becomes entangled in the drains, check with the builder on safety options.
